Journey to Bali 2009

SYNTHESIS OF RITUAL & CREATIVITY

You are invited on a special journey to one of the world's most evocative and beautiful cultures, a place that seems utterly "other" where people live their daily lives in touch with unseen worlds, where they express their lives and their interaction with those unseen forces through every possible artistic form. Nearly everyone in Bali is an artist of one kind or another. What we think of as "creativity," something special and set apart, is for them the most natural way of being human.

In Bali, practically everyone is, in our terms, an artist, for this is the most natural way of honoring the gods and serving the community. The fisherman by day may be a musician by night; the rice planter turns into a performer wearing the Rangda mask in the ancient rituals; the girl who works in the fields finds herself naturally performing the most intricate steps of a dancer in the dance dramas of the evening.

Balinese people create and craft art in order to restore the balance of the forces of the world. It is nearly impossible not to become artistic and to learn an art form with remarkable rapidity, and you will have the opportunity to do so under the directives of a master artisan in either mask making, batik, painting or woodworking, or even learning the basic skills for playing the gamelan.

You will experience extraordinary beauty in Bali's magnificent beaches, picturesque rice terraces, towering active volcanoes, fast flowing rivers, deep ravines, pristine crater lakes, sacred caves, and lush tropical forests full of exotic wildlife. And reflecting that beauty, you will experience a trance culture with in its many ceremonies, pageants of drama, music and dance. You will glimpse how these remarkable events repeatedly restore balance to the world, and you will find extraordinary gifts to bring home for restoring balance to your own world.

Jean will be lecturing and offering potent processes throughout our journey. Her good friend, David Patten, one of the great experts on Balinese culture, art and spirituality, will be introducing you to the hidden dimensions of Bali as well as giving you an inside look at the culture seldom seen by visitors.
